Our Experience In Virgin
We’ve stayed at hotels in Springdale, Virgin, La Verkin and Hurricane throughout separate trips to Zion in October 2019 and December 2021. In Virgin, we stayed at the popular Fairfield Inn hotel for one night. We also spent a night at Zion Watchman Campground and Zion Lodge, so we’ve got a lot of hotel experience in the area. We decided to stay in Virgin because it was convenient for us to hike The Zion Subway, and it was the only place we hadn’t stayed around the park. We ate at the excellent Balcony One restaurant on the west side of Virgin.

Fairfield Inn is the cheapest hotel in Virgin Utah. We also think it’s one of the best hotels near Zion because it has outstanding guest ratings, well above average amenities and more affordable rates than similar hotels in Springdale. Our own stay at the Fairfield Inn was excellent because we were able to wake up, have breakfast and get an early start hiking nearby at The Subway.
Reviewers on Booking rate staff, comfort, cleanliness and facilities the highest at Fairfield Inn. It’s the only traditional hotel in Virgin, and it’s perfect for families or couples because it has breakfast included, a peaceful setting, a good gym and a great outdoor area around the pools.

2. Zion Wildflower

Zion Wildflower is the most popular place to stay in Virgin Utah. It’s only been open since 2020, but it has the highest volume of positive guest ratings in the area according to both Booking and Google.
Reviewers on Booking rate staff, comfort, cleanliness, facilities and location the highest at Zion Wildflower. Lodging options include glamping tents, covered wagons and bungalows. It’s perfect for families or couples who want to try a unique hotel near Zion at an affordable price point.

Reviewers on Booking rate staff, comfort, cleanliness, facilities and location the highest at White Bison. It’s only been open since August 2022 so the accommodations are brand new and modern. There are plans to build a swimming pool on site, which will definitely complete the package.

AutoCamp Zion is a brand new luxury glamping hotel in Virgin Utah. Lodging options include basic AirStreams, deluxe cabins or AirStreams with connected glamping tents for larger groups. The most positive guest comments are about the vibe with games, music, drinks and food available each evening.
Reviewers on Booking rate staff, comfort, cleanliness and facilities the highest at AutoCamp Zion. It only just opened in 2023 and so far it has excellent ratings. We think it will continue to improve into 2024 and beyond. But be warned, there’s an additional property service charge.

5. Under Canvas Zion

Under Canvas is a popular luxurious glamping style lodging in Virgin UT. Accommodation options include deluxe tents, stargazer tents and suite tents. They all come with private bathrooms, wood burning stoves and decks. Dinner and breakfast can be bought on site so you can stay out in the wilderness.
Reviewers on Booking rate staff, comfort, cleanliness and location the highest at Under Canvas. It’s more expensive than other glamping options nearby and it’s also very remote. We think it’s a great place to stay if you want to completely escape into nature after battling crowds around Zion.

6. Zion’s Tiny Oasis

Zion’s Tiny Oasis is a unique tiny house resort in Virgin UT. The resort is comprised of just 3 small but luxurious structures complete with hot tubs, kitchens, living spaces and decks with fire pits. There’s nothing else around so you’ll be completely immersed into the natural landscape.
Reviewers on Booking rate comfort, cleanliness, facilities and location the highest at Zion’s Tiny Oasis. The few reviews so far are positive for the most part and the place looks great. Just be aware of added fees for taxes and cleaning which bumps up the price quite a bit.

7. Open Sky Zion

Open Sky Zion is the most luxurious place to stay in Virgin Utah. You can book Desert Rose Luxury Camp #104 at Open Sky and truly pamper yourself during a visit to Zion National Park. This place looks like a 5 star experience, with on-site restaurant and upscale furnishings throughout.
Desert Rose Luxury Camp is brand new so there are no scores available for staff, comfort, cleanliness, facilities, value for money or location on Booking yet. However, it has near perfect reviews by previous guests on Google. We think it’s definitely one to watch for early bird prices before it takes off!

Is Virgin A Good Place To Stay For Zion?
Virgin, Utah is a great place to stay for visiting Zion because it has many unique hotels in remote desert settings near the park. Couples who want a romantic break or families who want a peaceful escape are best suited to the style of hotels available in this area.
Springdale is the obvious alternative to Virgin when choosing a hotel near Zion. It’s closer to the park’s main hikes and it’s a livelier town with a much greater selection of restaurants when compared to Virgin.
If you’re looking for cheaper alternatives to Virgin and Springdale, you should look at hotels in La Verkin and Hurricane. The two towns are further from Zion but you’ll find much better value for money.

Are Hotels In Virgin UT Expensive?
Hotels in Virgin Utah are more expensive than any other place you can stay near Zion National Park. This is because accommodations are either remote campers with hot tubs or luxury glamping tents. The exception is Fairfield Inn, which is a traditional hotel with more affordable prices.
Bear in mind that you’ll pay 13-14% hotel tax on top of your base rate. And due to the nature of the accommodation types in Virgin, you might have to pay additional property service fees, resort fees or even a cleaning fee (similar to booking an Airbnb).

Our Verdict
Hotels in Virgin UT are expensive when compared to other areas around Zion National Park. But they’re unique, remote and luxurious which might suit couples or families seeking a different experience to a typical hotel stay when visiting Zion.
Fairfield Inn and Suites is the only traditional hotel in Virgin. Zion Wildflower and Zion White Bison offer affordable routes into a unique glamping experience. Autocamp and Under Canvas are more luxurious glamping options and Open Sky is the ultimate luxurious splurge.
We stayed at Fairfield Inn because it was affordable and close to Left Fork Trailhead in Kolob Terrace. Our itinerary was packed full of hikes, so we didn’t want to splurge on luxury glamping because we wouldn’t have gotten our money’s worth. But next time, we’ll definitely consider staying at one of the more luxurious Virgin UT hotels.
